The Wordless Book is one of the most effective ways to present the Gospel to children.(Although many adults have been led to Christ with it as well!) Wordless Book makes the Truth of the Gospel very simple. As it’s name suggests, it has no words! It contains just four colored pages of red, black, white and yellow and a green cover.
Story Of The Wordless Book
The Wordless Book is believed to have first been used by Charles Spurgeon in 1866 at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. He used a piece of black paper, red paper and white paper to share God’s plan for salvation. The black page reminded him of his sin, the red represented Christ’s blood shed for him, and the white page stood for the cleansing of his sins he received through Christ’s sacrifice. In 1875, D.L. Moody used the Wordless Book in Liverpool, England. He added a gold page to represent heaven.

(Adjusted For Children Or Adults)
Have you ever seen a book without words or pictures?
Have you ever peeked at the back page of a book to see if the ending is happy or sad?
I have! Let’s look at the last page first. It tells us about a very exciting place.
We give 4 things to each visitor
- The leather bracelet below with the Gospel colors.
- A small tract with a miniature Wordless Book inside so they can share the story with their friends and family.
- The Living Word Gospel of John.
- We ask everyone for a first name and phone number for follow up. If guests would prefer, we give a visitation card from the host church or church partner for follow up, church family and discipleship.
GOLD PAGE
What color is this? Right! Gold. What does it remind you of? That’s right! Something special. Mom’s wedding ring, treasure. It reminds me of God. God is perfect, He does no wrong. He created you and me! It also reminds me of heaven, that is where He lives. The streets are paved with gold! The most important thing is that He loves you and me!
“For God so loved the world…”
That means everyone, which is you and me!
But there is one thing that can never be in heaven.
That is sin.
DARK PAGE
This is sin. Sin is all the bad stuff you and I do that makes God sad. Telling your mom “NO!” when she asks you to clean your room, hitting your brother, telling lies. These things are all sin. You are born with a “want to” to sin. No one has to tell us how to do bad things. Mom and Dad punishes us when we are bad.
“all have sinned and come short of the glory of God…”
That means we are separated from God forever and ever because we do bad things. God has a wonderful plan so you and I don’t have to be punished for our sins.
RED PAGE
He sent His perfect son. His name is Jesus. He was born on earth and lived to be a young man. He never did anything wrong. When He was a young man, some men took Him, put a crown of thorns on His head and hanged Him on the cross. Do you know what came out of His hands and feet when they put the nails in? That’s right. Blood. The bible tells us in Hebrews 9:22b:
…”and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”
WHITE PAGE
And now because of what Jesus did for you, you can have your sins forgiven!
Psalm 51:7 says: …”wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
Jesus wants to forgive you of all your sins and take them away
YOU MUST TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST
John 1:12 says..“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
GREEN PAGE
What does the color green remind you of? Flowers? Grass? Things that grow.
When you receive Jesus as your Saviour, you have new life so you can know Jesus better.
2 Peter 3:18 says: “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
- Did you receive Jesus as your Saviour?
- Where is Jesus right now?
- How long will He be in your heart?
